The AMETEK (model: 5000) is a flexible, highly-sensitive moisture analyzer generally designed for process applications wherein the constant, reliable measurement of moisture in vapors / gases is necessary. This model of analyzer perform the measurement of moisture through monitoring the vibrational frequency change of hygroscopically-sensitized quartz crystal that is exposed alternately to wet sample and dry reference gases for 30-second spans.

The reference gas is a sample gas, which is passed through a molecular sieve dryers responsible for the removal of virtually all its moisture content. Typical applications concerning this machine include the proper moisture balance in feed stocks as well as the maintenance of hydrogen recycle streams in order to enhance the product yield and the catalyst life.

In addition, the measurement reliability is relatively complicated through the presence of compressor oils and high-boiling-point hydrocarbons in the stream.
